Welcome to the memorial page for

Cynthia A. (Waybright) Briggs

May 21, 1959 ~ June 12, 2016 (age 57) 57 Years Old

Cindy Briggs, 57, of Hadley, PA, local artist and well-known area quilter, made her journey home to Heaven at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016.  Having  battled melanoma for nearly five years, she had fought valiantly and kept a positive outlook to the end.

She was the daughter of Luke and Rhoda Baxter Waybright, deceased; born in Grove City, PA, on May 21, 1959; and sister to three brothers:  Thomas and David, who survive her, and William, deceased.

In 1980, Cindy was married to Jeffrey A. Briggs of Stoneboro, just a few days following her graduation from the Sharon General School of Nursing and he was graduated from the U.S. Naval  Academy, Annapolis, MD.

In the years that followed, the couple had four children:  Michael, Lindsey, Daniel, and Katherine.  An active registered nurse since 1980, Cindy also cared for their children while her husband, a Navy pilot, was often on duty at sea.  Owing to his naval career, they moved often to various billets, including Paris and Hyeres, France where Michael and Lindsey went to French schools.  The family first lived in a villa on the side of a mountain overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and later in the country not far from Paris.  Both Daniel and Katherine were born in a hospital near Hyeres, becoming French citizens.

In 1998 the family moved to Hadley where her husband, having served 24 years in the military, retired and became a teacher at Commodore Perry High School.  Cindy had continued her nursing career wherever they lived, until at last in 2012, she retired from the OB/GYN Clinic at the Greenville Medical Center so she could pursue her Master Peace Quilting business.

In 2015 Cindy held a successful, month-long art show in various mediums, such as acrylic paint, water color and charcoal at The Gallery 29 in Sharon.

A member of the Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, she was active in the choir and praise band, as well as a Sunday School teacher.

In addition, each August, Cindy held an all-day "Dyeing Day" seminar on the lawn of their home for those wishing to learn how to dye fabric, spreading her love of color and crafting.

She leaves her children, Michael and Meghan Briggs, Lindsey and Jacob Miller, Daniel, Katherine; and four grandchildren: Avery Briggs; Brianne, Jacob Jr., and Carolynn Miller.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, 3813 Hadley Road, Clarks Mills with Rev. Jay Sterling officiating.  The committal service and interment will follow at the Hadley Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the Robert L.
