William "Bill" Luther Young

William (Bill) Luther Young of Greenville, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 22, 2026

He was born in Fairmont, WV on May 16, 1931, to Effie May Haag.  When he was 3 years old, he was adopted by his grandparents, Robert R. and Martha L. Young of Mercer, Pa. The family moved to the Greenville area in 1934.

He married his wife, Joyce M. Brumbaugh, on December 29, 1950, after only knowing her for 3 weeks and one day. They spent their first year of wedded bliss in Wahiawa, Hawaii, where Bill was stationed in the Navy.

He is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters: Robert (Paulette) Young of Greenville, PA, Aletha Jenkins of Fredonia, PA, Thomas (Terri) Young of Blacktown, PA, Dana (Connie) Young of McKees Rocks, PA, and Deanna (Joseph) Kepler of Broken Arrow, OK.

His  grandchildren are Michelle Young of Greenville, Pa., Tabitha Knight of Greenville, PA, Tammy (Thomas) Haring of Kutztown, PA, Chad (Anita) Jenkins of Hadley, PA,  Brad (Emily) Jenkins of Mercer, PA,  Amanda Riddle of Grove City, PA, Virginia (Angie) Young of Sharon PA, Jennifer Young of Cleveland, OH,  Joseph (Nicole Pettis) Young of Albion, PA, Brittany (Justin) Brothers of Coraopolis, PA,  Philip (Carly) Young of West Springfield, PA and Zayne (Estelle) Williams of Fort Hood, TX. Step grandchildren are Tanner Kepler of Greenville, PA and Reade (Rebecca) Kepler of Broken Arrow, OK. He was also exceedingly blessed with 30 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

God honored him with the following foster children: Shawn Durstine, Phil Cutrucco, Wayne Ayers, Christopher and Richard Santell, Judy Davis, Jill Brown, Gary Myers, Russel Neely, Jennifer Titus Taub, Darlene Korab Morris, Jennifer and Capri Reiss, Jessica Lear, Mary Eakman, Diane Fennell, Elaine DeWolf, Jessica Deeter, Janie and Terry Spooner, and Patricia Bennrfield Horsey.  Bill and Joyce had 9 foreign exchange students as well. 

Bill retired from Reznor, in Mercer, PA in 1996 as the oldest maintenance man in its history after 48 years, 7 months, and 5 days. While working at Reznor, he also ran a farm. With family, he farmed about 500 acres of corn and soybeans a year. He also raised beef cattle and hogs. Upon retirement, he bought two Belgian mares, Doll and Dolly, and built his own wagon for them to pull to give the grandchildren rides. He attended church faithfully since his conversion in 1957, during which time he served on many boards, was a youth leader, and with his wife, taught Sunday school classes for children and adults. He was a member of the Country Chapel in Kennard, PA. Upon his wife’s passing in 2019 after 69 years of marriage, he needed companionship and added a new family member – Prince, a Fox Terrier puppy - that never left his side.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his mother, Effie, his parents, Robert & Martha Young, a son, Duane Edward (Eddie) Young at 5 months of age, sister Sonia, son-in-law George Jenkins, granddaughter Brenda Kay Jenkins, and Great-Grandson, Devin Joseph Riley.

The funeral service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville,  Bill will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage,  The visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM with an addition hour of visitation on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 AM time of service. 

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to the Country Chapel, at 275 Kennard–Osgood Road, Greenville, PA. 16125.
