William L. Sullivan

William L. Sullivan, Meadville, passed away Tuesday evening, December 3, 2024, at the Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.  He was 86

He was born in Grampian, Clearfield County, on December 22, 1937, a son of the late Thomas G. and Beulah M. (Rafferty) Sullivan.  He was a 1956 Commodore Perry High School graduate. He devoted many years of service to the Pennsylvania Carpenters Union, from which he retired in 1999.  On July 8, 1988, he married the former Carol Peterson, who preceded him in death on June 24, 2024.  Mr. Sullivan enjoyed fishing and took pride in maintaining his yard.  He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelly (Rob) Plati, Vienna, VA; three stepsons, Michael Hovis (Hazel) of Bacolod City, Philippines, William Hovis of Carlton, and Steven Hovis (Jamie) of Guys Mills; a brother, Lonnie (Claudia) Sullivan, Sheakleyville; three sisters, Doloris Drew, Sandy Lake, Lola Powell, Hadley, and Leona (John) Kutz, Saegertown; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; two brothers, John “Jack” Sullivan and Gerald “Jerry” Sullivan; a sister, Jean Scofield; and a stepson, Brian Armour.  

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2024, at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville.  The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM.  Mr. Sullivan will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to Alzheimer’s Research through the Western Pennsylvania Alzheimer’s Organization.  https://www.alz.org
