William F. Bratek, Hadley, Salem Twp. passed away early Tuesday morning, April 18, 2023, at the Select Specialty Hospital, Warren, Ohio. He was 96.
He was born in Greenville, on October 10, 1926, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Benkovski) Bratek. He was a WW II veteran having served honorably and dutifully with the US Navy from 1944 -1946. On December 19, 1947, he married the former Treva R. Roberts, his wife of 75 years. He attended Penn Tech, Pittsburgh where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed by the former Greenville Steel Car, then moved to St. Albans, WV where he was employed by FMC, Corporation, he then moved to St. Louis, MO where he worked for ACF Industries, and later relocated to the ACF Industries plant in Huntington, WV. from where he retired. He was an avid bowler, a member of the Hadley Rod and Gun Club, and enjoyed skeet shooting and participating with the ACR retirees in the annual horseshoes and cornhole tournaments. Mr. Bratek was a member of the Sheakleyville United Methodist Church and a life member of the Jamestown VFW Post # 5424. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be gardening or working with wood, utilizing his woodworking talents, Bill was able to make many household furniture items and his skills allowed him the opportunity to build his retirement home, a log cabin.
In addition to his wife, Treva, he is survived by two grandchildren, Jaime Engstrom and her fiancé, William Kidd, Hadley, and William Joseph Bratek and his wife Traci, Greenville, and two very special great-grandchildren, Camille Engstrom, serving with the US Navy, Norfolk, VA and Wyatt Engstrom, Hadley. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dennis W. Bratek, and David W. Bratek; 6 sisters, Alice, Madelyn, Pauline, Kay, Mary, and Nancy and 4 brothers, John, Joseph, James and Rudy.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. Military honors will be accorded by the Jamestown Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.
