Walter H. Coxson, 92, of Fredonia, Fairview Township, passed away Tuesday evening, June 16, 2026, at UPMC Shenango Valley with his loving family by his side.
Born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, on September 24, 1933, he was the son of the late Frank and Irene (Hart) Coxson.
Walter was employed as a welder by the former Greenville Steel Car and later by Trinity Industries, from which he retired following 42 years of dedicated service. He served honorably in the United States Army, from being stationed at Fort Knox to serving on the DEW Line in Alaska.
During his military service, Walter married his sweetheart, the former Georgine A. Alford, on June 6, 1954. Together they shared 72 years of marriage and soon settled in the home where they would spend their lives together. Walter extensively remodeled the house and added an addition himself. Gifted with his hands, he enjoyed carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and painting. He was also an accomplished woodworker with a special talent for wood carving, whittling, and crafting Civil War-era furniture. Walter helped build a log cabin and, alongside his son Wally, constructed a wooden-framed ultralight airplane. Walter has also served on the Board of the Greenville Steel Car Credit Union for 17 years.
In his younger years, he was active in Scouting, serving as a Scoutmaster for seven years. He enjoyed fishing everywhere from Lake Erie to Lake Josephine in Sebring, Florida, where he and Georgine spent their winter months for 23 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Georgine; two children, Wally (Micki) Coxson of Oil City and Cindy (Don) Redfoot of Stoneboro; one sister, Sandra Suich of Greenville; two brothers, Samuel (Mary Ann) Coxson of North Carolina and William (Christine) Coxson of Greenville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Coxson and Steven Coxson, and four brothers, Frank Coxson, Howard Coxson, Jim Coxson, and Paul Coxson.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 PM at the Fredonia branch of Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia, with Pastor Fred Bennett, Oak Grove Church, officiating. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM at the funeral home
