Obituary

 Virginia Letonek Irvine, age 95, passed away on September 13,2023, at the home of her daughter, Debbie (Mark) Smith of Blythewood, South Carolina. Virginia was born in Logan, West Virginia to Steve and Josephine Letonek, on February 22, 1928.

Her family moved to Greenville, Pennsylvania where they owned a small farm. She studied for a year at Houghton College and completed her Registered Nursing degree at Allegheny Valley Hospital.

Virginia married Earl E. Irvine on December 26, 1953. Together they had seven children. They were married forty-six years and enjoyed taking trips to visit their children.

Virginia’s nursing career began at the Greenville Hospital, where she met her husband. She spent many years as a nursing supervisor at the St Paul’s Homes.

Virginia was a green thumb gardener, loved cooking and baking, and was an avid reader. She saw beauty in everyday life and was a lifelong learner. She loved oil painting but most of all she loved spending time with family and friends.

Virginia was a member of the Greenville Wesleyan Methodist Church before moving to Marion, IN where she attended Nelson Street Wesleyan Church. She loved attending church and prayed faithfully for her children and others. She lived loving God and loving people.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Joy) Irvine, Central, SC; Mary (Scott) Deal, Elgin, SC; Kathy Irvine Sauer, Boise, ID; Linda (Kevin) Jones, Elgin, SC; Bryan (Debbie) Irvine, Hobe Sound, FL; Debbie (Mark) Smith, Blythewood, SC.; twenty grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Irvine, her parents, brother, Steve Letonek, daughter, Karen Irvine Comorato, son, Don Irvine, as well as, 2 infant sons.

Service arrangements are as follows. A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove Church, 10 Oak Grove Rd., Mercer, PA, Friday, September 22 at 1:00 PM with the burial service to follow at Delaware Cemetery.
