Thomas Sturgin, Sr. Obituary

Thomas L. Sturgin, Sr. Clarks Mills, Perry Twp. passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2025 at the UPMC-Jameson, New Castle. He was 74.

He was born in Meadville on December 17, 1950, a son of the late Donald and Eva (Smith) Sturgin.  He was a 1969 graduate of Commodore Perry High School.  Following his graduation, he married his high school sweetheart and lifelong companion, the former Diane Black and together they shared 55 years, Tom was a lifelong farmer with his father and currently with his son, Tracy on the family farm in Perry Twp. He was employed by Spang Power Control, Sandy Lake, retiring in 2008 after 38 years of service.  He enjoyed breakfast with his classmate over the many years.  An avid hunter, he enjoyed simply sitting on his porch and driving his “buggy” on the farm.  But above all, being a husband, father and grandfather was his greatest achievement, and he enjoyed the time he was able to be with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; 4 sons, Thomas Sturgin, Jr., Hadley, Tracy (Jollene) Sturgin, Clarks Mills, Todd (Leighann) Sturgin, Wooster, OH and Toby (Bridget) Sturgin, Park City, MT; a brother, Michael (Jane) Sturgin, Clarks Mills, a sister, Rebecca Wimer, Clarks Mills, a “5th” son, Anthony Clemente, Clarks Mills, who was considered a part of the family. A granddaughter, Amanda (Alex) Lysiak, grandsons, Lucas and Jarrod Sturgin, Nathaniel and Kyle Sturgin, Bryce and Logan Sturgin; 3 step grandsons, Brandon, Corey and Kyle Evans; great grandsons, Lincoln and Max Lysiak; a sister-in-law, Janice (Charlie) Good, Sandy Lake and a brother-in-law, Bill Black, Sako, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ronald Sturgin, a great grandson, Bowen Mabus Sturgin, 2 sisters in laws, Nancy Rupert and Becky Kaltenbaugh and a brother-in-law, Ronald Wimer.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville with Rev. Janice Good, sister in-law and pastor of the Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church officiating.  He will be laid to rest with committal prayers at Hadley Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.at the funeral home.
