Shirley Irene Willaman Hause passed away peacefully on November 14 at the age of 89.
Shirley was born in Transfer, PA on February 25, 1934, to Albert and Irene Koonce Willaman. Along with her three sisters Margery, Elsie, and Esther, and two brothers Robert and David, Shirley grew up on what is now the Vanderstappen dairy farm in Transfer, currently owned by Shirley’s niece Amy and husband John. Shirley graduated from Fredonia-Delaware High School in 1952 where she was on the cheer squad, cheering for her high school sweetheart and Vocats basketball star, Stan Hause. In February of 1953, Shirley flew to Hawaii where Stan was serving in the US Navy, where she became Mrs. Stanley S. Hause. Over their 69 years together, Stan and Shirley had four daughters, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren so far. They created many memories while they lived in many locations around the US including California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. They spent several years in Allentown, PA where they were active at the First Presbyterian church.
First and foremost, Shirley was a loving wife, mom, and grandmother. She was an accomplished quilter, seamstress, and needleworker, having made many beautiful articles of clothing, holiday decorations, and household items over the years. She volunteered her time extensively towards her daughters’ activities (crafting nearly 1,000 frogs stuffed with birdseed as a fundraiser for the early Parkettes) and several non-profit associations.
Preceded in death by her husband Stan, grand-daughter Melanie, her parents Albert and Irene, and four of her siblings, Shirley is survived by her daughters Sherene (James), Suzan ( Michael), Sandi ( Brian) and Staci (Jon), and her sister Esther Osborne. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and more than 100 nieces and nephews, grands, and great-grands. We will miss her terribly.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 18 at 11 am at Millbank Cemetery in Fredonia. A memorial service will be held next year. Donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements entrusted to Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia.
