Ruth Fisher Obituary

Ruth A. Fisher, of Mercer and Coolspring Township, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026, at Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Mercer, with her loving children by her side, just minutes after having achieved her 87th birthday.

Born in Mercer on July 14, 1939, Ruth was the daughter of the late John Hilding and Lillian Ruth (Snyder) Fredrickson. She was a 1957 graduate of the former Fredonia-Delaware High School. Following graduation, Ruth was employed by the former Chicago Bridge & Iron in Greenville before devoting herself to raising her family as a homemaker.

On July 28, 1962, she married Walter Myron Fisher, who preceded her in death on December 2, 2012. In her younger years, Ruth attended Big Bend United Methodist Church.

Ruth was an avid bowler and participated in several local bowling leagues, especially enjoying the Half-Awake League. She loved spending time with family and friends at card clubs, was an enthusiastic supporter of local bingo, and took great pleasure in collecting stamps, coins, and antiques. An avid reader, Ruth also found joy in feeding the many birds that visited her home and lovingly cared for her beautiful flower gardens.

She is survived by her three children, Kathleen (Larry) Peidle of Transfer, John Fisher of Rockwall, Texas, and Laurie Fisher of Mercer; two sisters, Doris (Ralph) Burns of Fredonia and Martha (James) Huscroft of Kinsman, Ohio; and three grandchildren, John Alexander Fisher of Largo, Florida, Justin Michael Peidle and his fiancée, Andrea, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, and Jordan Paul Peidle and his fiancée, Allison, of Steubenville, Ohio. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and especially her faithful feline companion, Oliver.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a sister, Marilyn Luce, and a stillborn sister.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff of AHN Hospice and Avalon Springs Nursing Center for the compassionate and exceptional care provided to Ruth throughout her stay.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Thursday, July 23rd from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Fredonia branch of Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia. Attire is casual and bright colors, in keeping with Ruth’s wishes.
