Russell James Erwin, of Fredonia, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024 at his home. He was 82.
Russell was born in Mt. Pleasant on January 3, 1942, a son of the late Francis R. and Rita (Shandorf) Erwin. On June 29, 1963 Russell married the former Dorothy Lee Szolek, who survives. This year they would have celebrated their 61tst wedding anniversary.
Russell worked as a mechanic for Cooper-Jerrett Trucking, DuBrook and Girard Equipment. He was also an evening childcare worker for George Junior Republic. And, as a member of the Calvary Fellowship Chapel, Russell worked as the youth director and coach. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy; a son, James (Faith) Erwin of Mercer; three sisters, Janet Fuoss, Julia Ann Hennessy, and Clara Sebeck; a brother, William G. Erwin; three grandchildren, Grant E. Erwin of Mercer, Lucas M. (Tiffany) Erwin of Panama City, FL, and Lily Erwin of Mercer; and a great granddaughter, Gracelyn May Erwin of Panama City, FL.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Francis R. Erwin, Jr., and Carol Sue Erwin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 5 pm at the Calvary Fellowship Chapel, 1033 N. Perry Hwy., Mercer, PA 16137. Family and friends may call at the church for a memorial visitation on Friday May 10, from 7-9 pm.
