Roy W. Herrmann, Sr. formerly of Stoneboro and Sandy Lake Twp. passed away early Thursday morning, June 6, 2024, at the Orchard Manor, Grove City surrounded by his family. He was 91.
He was born in Beaver Falls on November 8, 1932, a son of the late Charlie and Sadie (Pflugh) Herrmann. On April 20, 1963, he married the former Janet M. Shankleton, who preceded him in death on June 14, 2004. Roy began his working career as a self-employed farmer and was a partner in Tri Farmers Equipment, in Beaver County. In 1976 he and his family moved to Stoneboro, where he continued farming and also sold equipment for Rock Implement, Slippery Rock, and W.L. Dunn Implement, Cochranton. He subsequently sold Harvestore Silos, Slippery Rock, Star Silos, Jackson Center. He finished his career selling insurance and annuities for Harvest Life and GE Capital. He was a member of Lake Myrtle Lodge # 316 Free and Accepted Masons, Sandy Lake, The New Castle Scottish Rite Consistory, Methodist Circle of Faith, Lakeview Community Church, the former Sandy Lake Rotary Club, and later the Stoneboro Lions Club.
He is survived by his children, Alan Herrmann and his wife Dori, Meadville and Bonnie Herrmann and her fiancé, Robert Buck, Hadley; 5 grandchildren, Ryan Herrmann and his wife Shannon, Meadville, Jordan Herrmann, Erie, Chloe Herrmann and her fiancé Hunter Michaels, Meadville, Jenna Schaefer and her husband, Ryan, Grove City and Kayla Armstrong and her husband Hunter, Sandy Lake; 4 great-grandsons and an additional great-grandson expected in July.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet, a son, Roy W. Herrmann, Jr., and a sister Anna Mae Snowden.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. Lake Myrtle Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 4:00 PM. Roy will be laid to rest next to his wife Janet at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 pm until 4:00 PM.
