Robert L. King, Brookhaven, MS passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2024, in Florence, MS surrounded by his children and grandchildren.  He was 83.

He was born in Greenville, Pa., on October 24, 1940, a son of the late Harold and Harriet (Grinnell) King.  Mr. King served honorably with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He had been employed as a supervisor at the General Motors Plant in Brookhaven, MS., retiring after 30 years of service.  He was a former member of the Carpenters Corner Church of Christ, he had enjoyed restoring Model A’s, was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, especially pheasant hunting in Kansas, training his dogs, and the many fishing trips with his brothers to Canada.  He was a talented woodworker, using his skills to renovate and remodel homes, Mr. King was proud to have built his own home with his own hands.  He also enjoyed being able to work in the dirt with his dozer. Most important to Robert was the moments he could share with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Neal (Jo Ann) King, Brookhaven, MS, Kimberly (John) Norton, Florence, MS and Pamela (Andy) Smithie, McComb, MS; two sisters, Shirley Stright, Mercer and Linda Elder, Sandy Lake; three brothers, Gary (Karen) King, Clarks Mills, Paul “Butch” (Joyce) King, Clarks Mills and Steve (Janeen) King, Clarks Mills. 4 grandchildren, Darren (Ashley)  White, Taylor Smithie, William Smithie and Brian Smithie.

In his final day’s Mr. King expressed that he wanted peace for all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, the former Barbara Morris King; a brother, Lawrence King, a sister-in-law, Erla King, two brothers-in-laws, Donald Stright and Donald Elder.
