Richard M. “Dick” Sims, Greenville (Perry Twp.) passed away early Thursday morning, February 24, 2022, at the UPMC, Shenango Valley. He was 88.
He was born in Oil City on April 3, 1933, a son of the late Walter M. and Goldie A. (Mimm) Sims. On August 20, 1965, he married the former Virginia D. Durkee who survives. Richard received his master's degree from Slippery Rock State College in Geology and had taught Physics and Mathematics at the Commodore Perry School District, retiring in 1999. He also was a journeyman finish carpenter and was quite skilled in the repair of older clocks. He was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) and was a 7th degree member of the former Pleasant Ridge Grange.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his children, Scott A. Sims, Dillsburg, PA., Dale E. (Natasha) Sims, Marion, IL, Sarah J. (Dan) Lipton, Pittsburgh, and Krista L. (Wes) Greene, Mechanicsburg, PA and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, James D. Sims and Edward R. Sims, 2 sisters, Norma J. Valentine and Virginia L. Hall.
A Celebration of the Life of Richard will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. T
