Richard D. Lockwood

Richard D. Lockwood, Hadley, Deer Creek Twp. passed away early Wednesday morning, December 14, 2022, at the Meadville Medical Center, Liberty Street. He was 74.

He was born in Erie, PA on February 24, 1948, a son of the late Clifford H. and Rose (Nieznany) Lockwood.  On June 15, 1968, he married the former Beverly Sernik, who survives.

Richard started his career in the Tool and Die Industry after graduating from high school. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic.   Following his military service, he returned to the Tool and Die Industry working at Canto Tool, Meadville.  In 1983 he became a part owner of Holbrook Tool, Inc., Meadville.  For nearly 40 years he was a dedicated owner to his employees.

Dick loved drag racing with his son, Mike.  For 23 great years, they traveled all over the country competing. In 2015, they started truck pulling, which was a bit slower but much less dangerous.

Dick enjoyed his life to the fullest, spending time with his family and friends, He was a member and a familiar face to many social clubs.  He especially enjoyed playing “rip off” tickers with Kevin Kraeling and all his many friends, but his most treasured friend of many years, Gary Dillaman.

His favorite place to visit was New Orleans. While having a place near the city, he loved having his friends come to visit.

Dick is survived by his wife Beverly, a son Michael (Diane) Lockwood, Hadley; his siblings, Marian (John) Kopta, Hadley, Victor (Rita) Lockwood, Scottsdale, AZ., Ronald (Doris) Lockwood, Cochranton and Don (Ardele) Lockwood, FL and two very special granddaughters, Molly and Avery Lockwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Bobby Lockwood, and a brother, Clifford Lockwood.

His wife and family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care and kindness received from the doctors and nurses at the Meadville Medical Center, ICU, and TCU units.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at a later date.
