Rev. Roger W. Overmyer

Rev. Roger W. Overmyer, Cochranton, Fairfield Twp. passed away Saturday evening, March 1, 2025, in the comfort of his home and the presence of his family. He was ninety years old.

He was born on April 24, 1934, in Woodville, OH, a son of the late Corneal D. and Lucille Marie (Magsig) Overmyer. On June 15, 1956, he married the former Darylene J. Crigger, who survives. 

Roger grew up on the family farm in Lindsey Ohio. Although he loved farming, he felt the call to become a minister at an early age and began his “harvest” of souls, along with his partner in ministry, his wife Darylene.

 In 1957, Roger graduated from the Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute and was ordained in the United Brethren Church in 1960. From 1958 – 2006, he served churches in Youngstown and Findlay, Ohio, and Seneca and Franklin, Pennsylvania. He finished his pastorate services as the visitation minister at the Oak Grove Church, Mercer. Another part of his ministry was directing youth camps and acting as president of church camps in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Ministry did not end with retirement as he filled pulpits on occasion and was always available to counsel and pray with anyone in need.

Roger is survived by his two sons, Samuel (Kathy) Overmyer of Chesapeake Virginia, Daniel (Jodi) Overmyer of Jacksonville Florida and a daughter, Linda (Dan) Vogan of Cochranton, six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Brothers Gaylon (Frances) Overmyer, Darwin (Virginia) Overmyer and sister-in-law, Ellen Overmyer, all of Ohio, also survive.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, David.

Roger (Pastor Overmyer) loved his family, people and his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

He was never shy about much of anything, but especially his love of the Lord. His greatest joy would be that all his family and loved ones would experience a relationship with Christ. Along with being with family and friends, he enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and sitting in the tree stand with his boys.

Special thanks go to Christina Beachy, his caregiver and “ adopted” daughter. Also, Hospice of Crawford County, especially Kaylee and Tonya.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
