Rev. Lewis E. Urey
It is with great sadness that the family of Lewis E. Urey announces his passing on March 23, 2022, at the age of 92 from pancreatic cancer.
Lewis was born in Franklin, PA on November 11, 1929, to James D. and Esther Schreffler Urey who predeceased him. He was married to the love of his life Janet (Rough) Urey for 68 years before her passing on June 26, 2017. He has one daughter, Carolyn Gray (Dr. Phillip); three grandchildren, Phillip II (Lora), Matthew and Carole and four great-grandchildren, Phillip III (Trey), Preston, Kathryn and Aidan. Surviving extended family are Freda and Lewis Tenney, and Pauline and James Brink, and several nephews and nieces. He was also predeceased by his brother James Don Urey and sister-in-law Mildred and brother-in-law Earl Yarnell.
Lewis graduated from Salem Bible College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and became a pastor in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia for 33 years. He and his wife retired to Florida in 1996 to be near family. Rev. Urey will probably best be remembered for being one of the most patient persons and for his soul-winning endeavors, helping anyone who called day or night. He always went the second mile. After his wife passed, he wrote a book, “Treasures in Heaven” on their ministry and endeavored to reach people to the end in any way he could.
He was an amazing, loving, giving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed immeasurably.
Viewing is at 9:30 a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church on Sandy Lake Grove City Road, Stoneboro, PA.
