Nancy J. Gehly, Fredonia, Fairview Twp, passed away early Friday morning, Sept. 6, 2024, at her residence. She was 83.
She was born on January 29, 1941, a daughter of the late William and Naomi (Barns) Yeagley. On Dec. 31, 1960, she married Alvin F. Gehly, who survives. Nancy received her nursing degree as an LPN from Jameson School of Nursing. She was employed by the former Greenville Hospital and following her retirement, she worked in daycare in the Greenville area for over ten years. Mrs. Gehly volunteered at the Lakeview Area Helping Hands and was a literacy volunteer teaching older adults to read. Her family and her church were her priorities. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Fredonia, where she had served as a Deaconess and, over the years, was a Sunday School teacher, the church pianist, and was instrumental in the annual Children's Christmas plays and vacation bible school.
In addition to her husband, Alvin, she is survived by a daughter, Linda (Llew) Strachan, Butler, a son in law Robert (Amy) Shawkey, Hadley, two sisters, Elaine (Leroy) Canon, West Middlesex and Janice Moore, Bradford; a brother, David (Christine) Yeagley, Garrettsville, OH; four granddaughters, Stacy L. (Michael) Hetzel, Kent, OH, Sarah E. (Sean) York, Meadville, Alexis (Benjy) Narotsky, Pittsburgh and Ashely Huling, Cranberry Twp., Butler County and four great-grandchildren, Samuel, Layne and Wyatt York and Amelia Narotsky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julie L. Shawkey.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 169 Second Street, Fredonia, with Pastor Art Gehly, Jr and Joel Gehly officiating. Nancy will be laid to rest at Millbank Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
