Michael L. DeArment, Hadley (Perry Twp.), passed away at the UPMC -Hamot, Erie, with his wife by his side on Monday evening, October 9, 2023. He was 69.
Michael was born on August 12, 1954, a son of the late Paul and Barbara (Mitchell) DeArment. On January 29, 1999, he married the former, Janet L. Bryer. Mr. DeArment was a 1972 graduate of Greenville High School and went on to obtain his associate degree from Val-Tech. A lifelong mechanic, Mike has worked on transmission throughout his career. He began working as a Chevrolet mechanic in Youngstown, then went on to work as a mechanic for Bessemer Railroad, he owned and operated DeArment Transmission, Greenville, from 1990-2001, and then went to work for Carpenter Automotive, Meadville, finishing his career with Weber Harris Ford, Meadville from where he retired.
Mike has a passion for drag racing, having always owned a drag car, where he could be found at the local drag strips, as well as on many area backroads. He enjoyed NASCAR, drag racing, and NHRA. He and his wife enjoyed spending quiet evenings sitting and enjoying the scenery at Pymatuning Lake, watching the local youth little league games and local band competitions. He particularly enjoyed working on cars with his cousin, Eric Mitchell.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by his stepmother, Gloria DeArment, Greenville, a daughter, Shannon (Jay) Howard, CA.; a son, Kyle Wheeler and his fiancé Amber Patridge, Jamestown; 5 sisters, Lou (Jim) Ramp, Hadley, Alicia Cordova, NM, Maria Nevin, Greenville, Carmella (George) Harnett, Hadley and Kathy Feaster, Jamestown, two brothers, James Grueser, Germany and Kim Grueser, Pittsburgh and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul L. DeArment, his mother and stepfather, Barbara and James Grueser, a brother, Dennis R. DeArment, his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Leilani Bryer, Sr., two sisters-in-law, Linda Bryer DeJohn and Diane Grueser.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date.
