Mark Thompson Obituary

After nearly 83 years, we lost a truly wonderful human being.  Mark passed away at his home on Monday, 5/24/21 after another battle with cancer.

Born May 30, 1938 to the late Marshall Carl and Melva Mae (Thompson) Thompson.  He’d always boast of being a pure blood Thompson.  He was the youngest of three sons, with the late Kenneth and surviving brother John being the ones Mark looked up to.

Mark lived on the family farm his whole life. He attended several schools as a youth, but dropped out when he figured out that he couldn’t teach them any more. He met Sally Fisher, the love of his life, and they were married in 1958.  He was proud to provide for his family of three children, Tammy, Chris, and Mark, and bringing up his granddaughter Staci by being a very hard worker.  In his younger years Mark worked on the farm with his dad.  He drove tractor-trailer, milk truck (milk cans, not bulk tanks), and worked on the farm during the day before working on Damascus Tube’s 2nd shift until retirement.  Mark’s years at Damascus were legendary.  He was a big, strong, strapping man with a heart of gold.  He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it (and you liked western shirts).  He also worked for the township, was a volunteer fire fighter for years and would do practically anything for anyone who would ask for.  Most times he would do things for people even when they wouldn’t ask for it, because it was just the right thing to do.  The man could fix anything, it just took his “ingenuity” to fix it his way.

Mark loved the rodeo and enjoyed spending time outside, working on his tractors or helping the neighbors or family fix whatever is broken.  He adored his wife and family and loved to tell the tales of his life to all who would listen.  His stories, analogies, and idioms will live on for an eternity.

Mark’s adoring family include his wife Sally Claire (Fisher), late Tammy Lou VanSickle, daughter Christine Anne (& husband Bruce Fuller) of Madison, NY, and Mark Newton Thompson (& wife Tiffany) of Sharpsville as well as granddaughter Staci Anne (Gravatt) (& husband Kris Humphrey) of Hadley, grandaughter Bethany Wilma (VanSickle) (& husband Clay Sindlinger) of Hadley, grandson Eric Douglas Hanley (& wife Amber) of Sanford, NC, granddaughter Trisha Rochelle  (Hanley) (& husband John Sawyer) of Raleigh, NC, grandson Logan Curtis Thompson of Pittsburgh, and granddaughter Haley Jean Thompson of Kent, OH.  Mark also has eight great grandchildren with a ninth on the way.  Jackson & Haidyn Humphrey, Grayson & Maci Sindlinger, Jaiden Robison & Carsyn Sawyer, Mackenzie & Raegan Hanley & a baby boy on the way.

The passing of Mark Curtis Thompson does not mean his story is over, it just means that all of the lives that he touched will carry on his story for him, and he can rest now
