Margaret A. “Peg” King, Meadville, Vernon Twp. passed away Friday afternoon, September 22, 2023, at the home of her daughter, with her family by her side following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was 86.
She was born on March 1, 1937, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Thomas L. and Amy J. (Hott) Martin. She was a 1955 graduate of Lakeview High School where she played trombone in the school band and also with the former Sandy Lake Fireman’s Band. Peg, had a love of animals from her days on the family farm, raising geese, chickens, cats, dogs, and horses. She was proud of being a Penn State Master Gardener, Crawford County Chapter. She also enjoyed organic gardening, canning, and raising flowers and vegetables in her greenhouse.
On January 17, 1981, she married Hubert E. King who preceded her in death on December 15, 2021. She and her husband enjoyed sharing their hospitality with many family and friends, hosting weekly card groups, mostly playing hand and foot. She was a member of the Emmanuel Christian Church, Stoneboro where she had been church pianist and organist for many years, a self-taught talent that she learned as a child, playing for her father in his church ministries. She had worked on the family dairy farm, then went on to work for Magnetics, Inc., Sandy Lake and PPG Meadville, Plant 8, retiring in 1985. In her retirement years, she enjoyed working in the Crawford Central School District cafeteria.
She is survived by her three children to William Canon, two sons, Bill (Sherralyn) Canon, Elk City, OK., John (Carolyn) Canon, Greenville, and a daughter, Debbie (Steve) Wright, Stoneboro, and following her marriage to Hubert King in 1981 she was blessed to add two additional children to the family, Hugh (Becky) King, Vero Beach, FL. and Jackie Coloney, Ardmore, OK.
