Lester Bates, 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Born on November 21, 1965, Lester was one of four children born to Ronald and Marilyn Bates.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Lester owned Whitehead Tool & Design and pursued countless other business ventures with his trademark determination and curiosity. He was a proud graduate of the School of Hard Knocks and a generous supporter of both Mason and Shriner events. As a dedicated member of Masonic Lodge 408, he lived out the values of service, loyalty, and brotherhood.
Lester’s passion for pulling was known far and wide. As a member of the NTPA, he could often be found living his best life behind the wheel of “Mr. Magee” or “Completely Nuts,” surrounded by friends, family, and the community he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Gail “Punkin” Bates; his five children, Jared Bates, Victoria Bates (Zach Anderson), Samantha Speir (Greg Speir), Stephanie Craft (Kody Craft), Brittany Speir (Doug Speir); twelve beloved grandchildren: Easton, Brylee, Emma, Cooper, Everleigh, Keaton, Dominic, Troy, Everest, Drevin, Zaiden, and Camden; and siblings Nancy Sunderland, Wesley Bates, and Regina Ross. Proceeded in death by his father Ronald Bates.
To many, Lester was known simply as “The Man, The Myth, The Legend.” His larger‑than‑life presence, unwavering work ethic, and boundless love for his family leave a legacy that will be cherished forever.
