John Straub Obituary

John M. Straub, Greenville, Otter Creek Twp. passed away Sunday evening, April 16, 2023, at the UPMC Hamot, Erie.  He was 58.

John was born in Greenville on May 13, 1964, a son of the late William R. and Helen E. (Shilling) Straub.

He was a 1982 Commodore Perry High School graduate and was employed by the R.D. Werner Company from where he had retired. He then went on to be a loyal and dependable funeral assistant and driver at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. for over 14 years.  John had served as the elected Mayor for Fredonia Borough and was currently the caretaker of the Millbank Cemetery and a member of the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a member of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, the Mercer County Grange, and the Mercer County 4H.    John had a love for beagles and will be dearly missed by his k-9 companion, Betsy.  He enjoyed farming, rabbit hunting and deer hunting.  John was capable of fixing most anything, but most often would be found tinkering with small engines.

He held the title of “Uncle” to many, including Brandon Peterson and Michael Simons.  He is remembered for having a “big bark” that was tempered by his tender and compassionate heart for others.

Left to cherish his memory, are his siblings, James ( Emily) Straub, Stoneboro, Julie Straub, Greenville and Jean Cullen, Hadley, 6 nieces and nephews, Jenny (Kyle) Patterson, Clarks Mills, Joe (Jackie) Straub, New York, Michelle (Scott) Maust, Salisbury, Matthew (Sara) Cullen, US Army, Germany, Isaac Straub, Stoneboro and Aaron Straub, Stoneboro, 7 great nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Ella, Levi, Aleah, Trevor, Derek, and Kolton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of John’s life will be held on May 11, 2023, at 6:00 PM at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, Water Street, Fredonia with Rev Eric M. Peters, officiating.
