John W. King, formerly of Fredonia, Delaware Twp. passed away early Thursday evening, June 8, 2023, at the Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington where he had been residing. He was 98.
John was born in Bellevue, PA on March 16, 1925, a son of Charles E. and Marie H. (Stoltenberg) King. On October 4, 1968, he married the former Anna “Annie” Roedler who preceded him in death on April 1, 2021. He had been employed by the Hartford Insurance Company for over 33 years and was self-employed with Kings Employee Benefits Services. He had served honorably with the US Army during WWII as a rifleman in the 109th Infantry Regiment of the 28th Division in the Ardennes Offensive, known as the Battle of the Bulge, was a Mercer Hebron Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Linesville VFW, Post 7842, an NRA life member, and a member of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three sons, John C.W. (Eileen) King, Chagrin Falls, OH, James David Vernon (Deb) King, Selbyville, DE, Edward Allen Henry (Donita) King, Chesterfield, VA; a daughter, Laura (Jim) Sorgini, Douglasville, PA; a sister, Norma (Ed) Wilcox, New Wilmington; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Deborah King, and a brother, Charles King.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Millbank Cemetery with Rev. Eric M. Peters, pastor of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, officiating. John will be laid to rest next to his wife Annie at the Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia.
