James (Jim) Barnhart, 81, of Meadville, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024. He was born March 21, 1943 in Meadville, PA, a son of Allen and Madge Barnhart. He married Donna Jean Orr May 20, 1964.
Jim attended Conneautville High School. He joined the U.S.Army in 1962 and was stationed in Okinawa, Ft Bliss Texas and finished his service at Carlisle Barracks near Pittsburgh. He worked in machine shops throughout his life. Jim was also a driver for many in the Amish community throughout the Meadville area.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and working outdoors. He took pride being a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and attended many games. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
Survivors include three children, James Barnhart, Jr (Heather) of Big Pool, MD, Julie Busher (Ray) of Mansfield, TX, and Jennifer Hazlett (Joe) of Meadville; daughter-in-law Alice Barnhart of Meadville; fourteen grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Breanna and Kirsten Barnhart, Lindsay Busher-Huppertz (Pascal), Austin (Jade), Mackenzie and Andrew Busher. Karrissa, Jason, Dallas, Ben, Joy, Ethan and Journey Barnhart; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Caleigh and Mya Busher. One brother, Lee (Karen) Barnhart of Meadville and several nieces and nephews and extended friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Donna Jean Orr, three brothers, Richard, Frank, and Larry Barnhart. Followed in death by son Joseph Barnhart (Alice).
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
