Howard M. “Mike” Smith, Jr., Hadley, (Perry Twp.) passed away early Saturday morning, December 30, 2023, at Avalon Springs, Mercer. He was 92.
He was born in Perry Township on January 23, 1931, a son of the late Howard M. and Pearl E. (Smith) Sr. On July 17, 1954, he married the former Donna M. Armour who survives. Mr. Smith was a lifelong dairy farmer and was self-employed as an excavator for many years. He was a member of the Hadley Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder and trustee. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization, the Hadley Rod and Gun Club, and the Meadville Eagles Aerie 429.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Marla (Doug) Chess, Hadley; a son Bradley (Kim) Smith, Hadley; his grandchildren, Nathan (Kotie) Chess, Mercer, Conner Chess, Ft Collins, CO., Ame Smith, Greenville and Clayton Smith, Hadley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Audrey Shook and Doris Scott.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 1:30 pm at the Hadley Presbyterian Church, 118 Church Street, Hadley with Dr. Janet Segall, pastor of the church officiating.
