Hazel (Shearer) Shollenberger

Hazel Shearer Shollenberger, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, at The Villas at St. Paul’s Senior Retirement Community, Greenville. She was 97.

Born on April 8, 1929, in Connoquenessing, Butler County, Pennsylvania, Hazel was the daughter of the late John Shearer and Mabel Watson Shearer. She graduated from Butler High School and devoted her life to her family, faith, and service to others.

On October 18, 1958, Hazel married Richard Dale Shollenberger at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Together, they built a loving family and shared 67 years of marriage.

Hazel was employed at Mellon National Bank in Butler for two years following high school and later worked for Bell Telephone Company in New Castle before her marriage. She also served as a bookkeeper at the Record Argus for several years. She and her husband loved to travel and especially enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach.

A devoted Christian, Hazel became a member of Greenville Alliance Church in 2008 and was formerly active with the former Christ Community Church in Fredonia. She generously volunteered at the Good Shepherd Center and was known for her caring spirit and servant’s heart.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard; her two sons, Ronald (Karen) Shollenberger of Fredonia and Donald (Karen) Shollenberger of Champion, Ohio; her sister, Joan (Lloyd) Raney of Enon Valley. She was also blessed with grandchildren, Ronald, Patricia, and Joseph Dunlap, as well as great-grandchildren, Ava Marie, Ronald, Brody, Bryan, and Andrew, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Henry, and her brothers, Bryce Shearer and David Shearer.

The Celebration of Life service for Hazel will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Greenville Alliance Church, 63 Conneaut Lake Road, Greenville, with Rev. Byron Dickey, pastor of the church, officiating.  Hazel will be laid to rest at the Delaware Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Greenville Alliance Church.
