H. Daniel Snyder Obituary

H. Daniel Snyder, Greenville, Otter Creek Twp. passed away at 11:29 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at UPMC-Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, with his family by his side.  He was 74.

Born on August 4, 1951, in Greenville to the late E. Duane and Pearl L. (Kitch) Snyder, Dan grew up with a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. His zest for life and love for nature was evident from his younger years as an Eagle Scout and later as a Boy Scout leader. Dan's commitment to his community also shone through his service as an umpire for local Little League games and as an elected supervisor of Otter Creek Twp.

On November 9, 1991, Dan married his beloved wife, Rebecca L. Alsdorf. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that would span 34 years.

Professionally, Dan dedicated 23 years as a nuclear medicine, X-ray, and MRI technician at local hospitals. Beyond his medical career, Dan was a master craftsman in the art of taxidermy. His business, Otter Creek Taxidermy, which he owned and operated for 24 years, was a testament to his skill and passion for preserving the beauty of wildlife. His reputation as a master taxidermist took him across the United States, where he generously shared his knowledge with others in the field.

Dan's leadership and dedication to his craft were further exemplified through his roles as a board member and officer of both the National and Pennsylvania Taxidermist Associations, where he served for 10 and 13 years, respectively. His involvement with the Hunt of a Lifetime Organization as the taxidermy coordinator showcased his commitment to sharing the hunting experience with those facing life-threatening illnesses.

Beyond his professional accolades, Dan lived a life of mentorship and teaching. He guided others in hunting, meat processing, and preparation, embodying the essence of a true homesteader. His expertise and knowledge also led him to become a Big Game guide in Montana.

Despite health challenges, Dan's spirit remained unbroken, with the desire to always be out enjoying nature and hunting as he was able. He was a member of the NRA, the Deer Creek Field Archers, and the Jerusalem Christian Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Becky, a daughter, Dawn (Brian) Lamberton, Franklin, a son, Travis Snyder and his fiancé Kris Bouchard, Jacksonville, NC, a god daughter, Scarlette Lily (Corey) House, Grantsville, MD, his sister, Margie McGuire, Danville, OH, a brother, William (Deborah) Snyder, Transfer, seven grandchildren, Ayla (Austin) Jay, Kerrin Hoffman, Kendall Hoffman and her fiancée, Jake, Karlie Hoffman and her companion, Cavan, Austin Lamberton and his fiancé Shaden, David Snyder and Gil Snyder. Five great-grandchildren, Flint, Dakota, Layne, Daryl, and Tallulah.  His extended family, friends, nieces, and nephews will also hold dear the memory of a man who touched so many lives.
