Gerald "Jerry" S. McDowell

Gerald (Jerry) S. McDowell Sr. 82 of Hadley, Pa. passed at home with family at his bedside on Sunday, May 7, 2023, following a 1-year illness.

Although his spiritual journey on earth was a short one, his decision late in life to follow Jesus gave him the assurance that he was passing from this life to his eternal home in heaven.

Jerry was born on August 14, 1940, in Hadley, Pa to Wilbur G. and Lorna (Smith) McDowell.  He was a graduate of Commodore Perry High School and soon after began his lifelong career as a water and oil well driller and pump installer.

Jerry is well known for his knowledge of diesel engines, well-drilling rigs and equipment, restoration of old trucks, and anything having an engine and wheels.  Although he was usually a man of few words, if he met you and you had any interest in the former, conversation was no problem.  Jerry loved to go to truck shows, truck pulls, engine shows, and the many races. He was an avid Nascar fan.

Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Dory) Rockhill on August 27,1960. Shortly after their marriage, he designed and built their home where they lived together and raised their family for almost 63 years. She survives at home.

Also surviving are his children, Gerald S. (Kay) McDowell Jr. Greenville, Lorna L. (Ira) Nagel, Greenville, and Bradley J. (Nicki) McDowell, Meadville, Pa.

9 grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew, Cheraya, Gerald Ill, Jacob, Lindsay, Steven, Max, Bella, and 13 great-grandchildren

His parents preceded him in death along with a sister, Marjorie, and her unborn child.

Graveside services will be held at the Hadley Cemetery on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The invitation is extended to family and friends wishing to attend.

Everyone is welcome to join the family for a meal following the service at the McDowell home, 3324 Hadley Rd. Hadley, Pa
