Ellen Kathleen Benninger, age 93, of Uniontown, OH, and formerly of Greenville, died at early Saturday evening, June 17, 2023.
Ellen was born December 13, 1929, in Salem Township, Greenville, PA, to J. Lawrence Stevenson and Anna Limber Stevenson. She graduated from Penn High School in 1948.
She married Jack E. Benninger on October 22, 1948. Together they attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College, Miltonvale, Kansas.
Ellen and her husband, Jack, were pastors for over 40 years in the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Connection. Ellen was a member of the North Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church. Ellen loved being a born-again Christian. One of her favorite verses in the Bible was Romans 4:7 "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered." Besides loving music and cooking, she was a cake decorator and a chalk artist.
Because Ellen loved music, cooking, and writing, she was the author of several books and the titles exemplified her life of JOY: her cookbook: “Cook with Joy” her autobiography: “Live with Joy”, 3 versions of a songbook: “Sing with Joy” and a children’s book: “Country Kids”.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Debra Patterson of Hillard Ohio; two grandchildren: Beth Ellen Eggleston and her husband, Darren, of Columbus, OH; and Jack E. Benninger II of Hilliard, OH; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn and her husband Dr. Sam Deets, Martha Stevenson of Columbus, Ohio, and Barbara Benninger of Brooksville, FL; two great-grandchildren, James and Evan Benninger, Hilliard. OH; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Benninger of 70 years, her parents; a son, Clarence E. Benninger; a sister, Sarah E. McIlhany; two brothers, Alden L. Stevenson and James R. Stevenson; and two nephews, Jeffry Stevenson and Wally McIlhany.
When the lengthy tale, at last, is told,
When the burning suns have faded and grown cold,
Though my body sleeps beneath the rain-swept sod,
I shall still be singing on the hills of God.
