Dustin Nathaniel Smith, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at his home in Mercer, PA.
He was born January 17, 1995 in Anniston, Alabama. Dustin is preceded in death by his birth mother Teresa Champion. He is survived by his adoptive parents William and Ann Smith of Prattville, AL; Michelle McCollough (Brian) of Summit, MS; April Haney (Chris) of Macon, GA; Caleb Smith of Wichita Falls, TX; Amy Hutchens (James) of Oneonta, AL; Sierra Smith, Micah Smith and Aaron Smith, from Prattville, AL; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dustin was loved by many and was fortunate to have his maternal aunt, Tammie Garrett (Randy) of Cedartown, GA as a constant source of support and love throughout his life.
Dustin is a graduate of New Hope Academy in Prattville, Alabama. After graduating from high school, he followed through on his lifelong dream of joining the United States Army where he served as a dedicated combat systems engineer for five years before being honorably discharged. Fueled by a sense of duty and a desire to serve his country, Dustin fearlessly faced the challenges that came with his military role. His commitment to protecting and defending others was a testament to his selflessness and bravery.
The loss of Dustin is deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who mourn his passing.
