David Wayne Zellmann

David Wayne Zellmann (79) of Mercer passed away on February 26, 2022.

Dave was born on August 1, 1942 in Grove City, PA to the late Wilbur and Virginia (Frew) Zellmann. He married Michele Houdayer on August 10, 1963.

He graduated from Grove City High School in 1960. He served honorably for 20 years in the Army and was a proud Vietnam veteran. He was a military policeman whose special duties included guard duty at Arlington Cemetery shortly after President Kennedy’s assassination.

Following retirement from the Army, he settled in Mercer and worked for the Mercer County Sheriff’s department as a deputy. He later drove a bus for Butler Motor Transit and especially enjoyed transporting the Harlem Globetrotters. He later drove for many Amish friends after retiring from the bus company.

He is survived by his wife Michele; two sons, Lewis (Janet) of Monaca, PA, and David of Tallmadge, OH; and one daughter, Kimberley (Gary) of Mercer. He leaves behind three grandsons, Tanner, Reade, and Andy, and two great grandchildren, Kaylee and Kaden.

He was the oldest of four, and his sister, Mary Kay (Bob) Royer of Bellefonte, PA; Chris (Joyce) of Shamokan Dam, PA; and James (Lynette) of Grove City, survive along with six nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart Church in Mercer and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, travels to France, and talking with friends.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia, a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary with the Rev. James Kennelly officiating, 100 Penn Ave., Mercer.  David will be laid to rest at the All Saints Cemetery, Jefferson Twp.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.snyderfh.com.
