Charles Ray Hoover, 83, Greenville, PA died early Sunday morning on November 22, 2020 at home with family by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
Charles was born in Delaware Township, PA on March 13, 1937, son of the late Dent Broce and Minnie Belle (George) Hoover. He attended a one room schoolhouse in Fredonia, PA. Charles was employed at National Malleable and Steel Castings in Sharon, PA for 28 years, Falcon Trucking in Slippery Rock, PA for 11½ years, Midwest Steel and Alloy in Youngstown, OH for 10 years and a bus driver for Anderson's Coach and Travel in Greenville, PA for 19 years. He enjoyed working outside, riding his Harley Davidson, going to flea markets, collecting toy vehicles and tractors and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Ellen (Gruver) Hoover, whom he married on July 30, 1994.
He is also survived by two daughters, Monica West of Greenville, PA and Janice Hoover of New Cumberland, WV; eight grandchildren, Heather Peterson, Nicole Peterson, Thomas West, Tiffany Hanson, Hailey Bowersox, Joseph Held, Michael-Leroy Derugen and Menchie-Kim Derugen; seven great grandchildren, Damian Malcolm, Blake Lancaster, Braxton Lancaster, Arizona Hanson, Adalyn Campbell, Kai Held and Michael Derugen; a sister, Laura Winner and her husband William of Manheim, PA; and a brother, James "Dewey" Hoover and his wife Patricia of Winter Haven, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George, Dorris "Bob", Tom, Brent and Dent Hoover; a half-brother, Donald Wright; a sister, Emma Jean Redfoot; a previous wife, Dorothy Hoover; a son, John Charles Hoover; a daughter, Joan Ellen Hoover; a stepson, Kenneth Scott Derugen; and a great grandson, Aidyn Hoover.
The funeral and committal service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020 at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Charles will be laid to rest at the Hadley Cemetery.
