Carl Frank Carlson, Sr., Cochranton, Greenwood Twp, formerly of New Castle, passed away at his residence with his family by his side on Monday, December 5, 2022. He was 92.

He was born in DuBois, PA on April 18, 1930, a son of the late Gust and Ruth (Welchone) Carlson. On December 19, 1958, he married the former Helen Gayle McClintock, who survives. Mr. Carlson served proudly and honorably with the US Navy aboard the USS McKean during the Korean war. He then was employed by Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania, now known as Verizon, from where he retired after 35 years of service.

He enjoyed being a member of the New Castle Coin Club; he was a past vice president in Bellco Credit Union and a member of the New Castle VFW Post 315.

In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his children, Tracey (Larry) Byerly, Cochranton, Carl Frank (Janice) Carlson, Jr., Greenville, Craig (Cindy) Carlson, North East and Terry (Rich) Brock, Cochranton, 5 grandchildren, Caroline (Jared) Hobbs, Natalie (Matt) Martis, Magnus Carlson, Nathan (Faye) Carlson, Wyatt Brock, a step-grandson Harold Ellison and two great grandchildren, Alexis and Jayden Hobbs. He was anticipating the arrival of his third great grandchild Evelyn Rose. He is also survived by a special cousin, whom he grew up alongside, Richard Catherman, State College and several beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, David Ellison, two brother, William Carlson and Elwood Carlson, two sisters Jean Catherman and Maxine Nelson and a close uncle Bill Carlson.

Carl loved being outdoors and provided his children with a lifetime of memories and tall tales of hiking, camping, fishing, hunting and Sunday afternoon drives.  Carl continued to share his joy of the outdoors, and tall tales, with his grandchildren.

Mr. Carlson will be laid to rest with military honors accorded by the New Castle Honor Guard at the Graceland Cemetery, New Castle.
