Verna Slozat Obituary

Verna Mary (Moyer) Slozat, 99 of Cochranton and most recently a resident of the Orchard Manor, Grove City went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

Verna was born in Clayton, PA. on July 1, 1919 a daughter of the late Erwin and Emma (Weiss) Moyer.  She spoke frequently of her happy memories on the family farm surrounded by her many brothers and sisters.  She attended Allentown Bible Institute.  She married Stephen Slozat on May 10, 1944 and they were married for 65 years.

Verna worked as a night nurse at the Methodist Home (Wesbury) in the 1960’s  She also worked at the former Peaceful Rest Home in Cochranton for 35 years as a nurse and later as the activities director until retiring at the age of 87.  She loved music and served as the church pianist at the Geneva Pilgram Holiness Church.  In addition to her own children and grandchildren, she taught many other little fingers to play the piano and held yearly recitals.  She taught children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  She would be pleased to be remembered as a prayerful women with great love and trust in her Lord.

She is survived by her brother, Raymond Moyer and sister Evelyn Durfey both of Bethlehem, PA.  Her children, Ronald (Patti) Slozat of Shippensburg, Ruth (Timothy) Smolinski, New Wilmington and Larry (Gay) Slozat, Meadville.  Her granddaughters, Tammy (Michael) Johnson, Stoneboro, Amy (Justin) Crepp, Granger, IL. and Lori (Tim) Turner, Columbus, MS and 5 great grandchildren, Jaxon, Aubrey and Cassidy Turner and Aaron and Sawyer Crepp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, Homer, Clarence, Erwin and LeRoy; three sisters, Helen Barnett, Lillian Gottschalk and Mary Bader.

Family and friends may call at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 2:00pm to 5:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at which time the funeral service will be held with the Rev. Daniel Quesenberry, pastor of the Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church officiating.  Verna will be laid to rest  along side her husband at the Anderson Cemetery, Greenwood Twp.
