Dennis M. Chess, Greenville (Salem Twp.) passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his residence on Saturday evening, April 28, 2018 . He was 45.
Dennis was born in Greenville on March 14, 1973 a son of Dallas M. and Donna M. (Mitchell) Chess. On October 28, 2000 he married the former Sarah L. Corbin who survives. Dennis began his working career at Chess Service, Sheakleyville at the age of 13, at the urging of his Uncle Dale Chess. Throughout the next 32 years he was actively involved in all facets of the business and became a familiar face and friend to all in the community. He will be remembered by many for his compassionate disposition and his sense of humor and wit.
Dennis was an active member of the North Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church and had a passion and concern for children in the community and would often be found picking up children and transporting them to the North Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church for Sunday school and worship. He enjoyed the many trips to the hunting camp where he appreciated the opportunity to fellowship with his family and friends.
Through his time driving school bus for Chess Services he had made many Amish friends over the years. Dennis’s care and concern for others was exhibited in his daily life and he had a profound impact on many lives. He will be greatly missed by the entire community. He was a member of the Board of the Stoneboro Wesleyan School, a director for the Stevenson Cemetery and has served as an elected Auditor for Salem Twp. for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah L. Chess at home, his daughter, Suzannah Chess at home; his mother, Donna M Chess, Greenville; two brothers, Douglas S. Chess and his wife Marla of Hadley and Daniel L. Chess and his wife Amy of Butler; two sisters, Deborah K. Helstern and her husband Larry of Greenville and Deana L. Sweigard and her husband Joseph of Harrisburg. Many nieces and nephews, cousins and Aunts and Uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dallas M. Chess in 2003, his grandparents, Lester and Kathryn Chess and Guy and Eleanor Mitchell.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at the North Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church, 190 Osborn Road, Greenville with Rev. Michael D. Marshall, pastor of the church officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at the Stevenson Cemetery, Greenville. Family and friends may call at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville on Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 -8:00 pm and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until time of service.
