Delsie J. (Wheeler) Leighty

Delsie J. Leighty, Mercer, passed away at her residence on Friday, January 12, 2018.  She was 84.

She was born in Worth Twp., on January 11, 1934 a daughter of the late Ellis and Margaret E. Boyd Wheeler.  On Nov. 22, 1952 she married George F. Leighty who preceded her in death on January 25, 1981.  She was a homemaker and attended the Fredonia Presbyterian Church and had also been a member of the Delaware Grove Birthday Club.

She is survived by two sons, George R. Leighty and his wife Susan (Hurtt) Leighty of Mercer and Kenneth E. Leighty and his partner Russ Rex of St. Francis, WI. Two daughters, Georgenia A. Reed and her husband Joseph of Fredonia and Melinda J. Harpst of Hadley and her husband Denny of New Hamburg. A sister-In- Law, Mary Leighty of New Wilmington.  5 grandchildren, Tashana Leighty, Rod Slater, Brad Slater, Robert Hurtt and Belinda Patterson, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, George Paul Leighty, 2 brothers, Clyde Wheeler and William Lewis Wheeler, 3 sisters, Alice Nosker, Imogene Millsop and Anna Dick, a brother in law, Lawrence Leighty and a brother and sister in law, Parker and Ruth Ellen Henry.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11;00 am at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia with Rev. Eric Peters officiating.  Delsie will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Millbank Cemetery.  Family and friend may call on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm and are invited to share memories and condolences online at snyderfh.com

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to the Wounded warrior Fund or to the Keystone Blind Association.
