John P. Brocklehurst

December 9, 1935 ~ April 22, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

John P. Brocklehurst, N. Mills Road, Mercer, Coolsprings Twp. passed away at 6:00 am on Saturday, April  22, 2017 at the Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Mercer.  He was 81.

John was born in Jackson Center on December 9, 1935 a son of the late Paul and Henrietta (Uber) Brocklehurst.  On July 2, 1959 he married Mary Jane Anthony and she preceded  him in death on October 2, 2016.    In his early years, John was a truck driver, until 1965 when he and his wife purchased a farm in Coolsprings Twp. where he raised and drove race horses until 1995. This was a passion and tradition that he has passed onto his children and grandchildren.  In 1995 John went onto operate a harness repair shop up until the last month.  He was a member of the United State Trotting Association and the NRA.   He had served with the U.S. Army following the Korean Conflict.

John is survived by two sons, Harold Brocklehurst and his wife Rebecca of New Wilmington and Austin Brocklehurst and his wife Susan J. of Clintonville;  Two daughters, Jane Bungar of Mercer and Amanda Fox of Wheatland, WY; 7 grandchildren, Michael Brocklehurst, Bryce Brocklehurst, Mindy Shaffer, John Young, Chelsey Miles, Andrea Fox and Levi Fox; 5 great grandchildren, Owen Brocklehurst, James, Nathan and Jaden Hassey and Michael Young;  a sister Donna Buckley of Arizonia, two half sisters; Sally B. Hoovler of Sheakleyville and Linda Ealy of Greenville. 1 brother  Paul Brocklehurst and his wife Aleta of Hermitage and a half brother Wayne Brocklehurst of Marionville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, Lois B. Brocklehurst, 2 brothers, David Brocklehurst and Robert L. Brocklehurst and an infant sister, Jane.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 2:30 pm at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia with Joe DiDonato, track chaplain of the Meadows Race Track.  The interment and committal service will follow at the Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Jackson Twp. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 pm to 2:15 pm and are invited to share memories online at www.snyderfh.com.   Following the committal service the family is inviting those attending to a meal which will follow at the Coolsprings Twp. Building, Rt 19, Mercer.
